About

Stephanie Tumampos is a Filipino doctoral student at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, in the field of remote sensing. She has a background in applied physics, environmental engineering, and geoinformatics. Aside from her academic pursuits, Stephanie is also a passionate science communicator where she was a photojournalist and science writer for BusinessMirror for more than seven years before moving to Europe to pursue her academic career. She currently hosts the podcast, "Down to Earth: A Podcast for Geoscientists by Geoscientist," of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (IEEE GRSS) where she invites experts in the field of innovative geoscience and remote sensing to talk about their science, careers, and passions. She is also an advocate for diversity, inclusion, and belongingness. Stephanie believes that every person should be able to do science regardless of gender, race, or background. She also believes that science should be accessible to all.

She promotes all of these through the IEEE GRSS, which she serves as the Chief of Publicity and Marketing, social media ambassador for IEEE GRSS Inspire Develop Empower Advance (IDEA) committee, and International Society for Digital Earth where she is currently the Youth Ambassador, among others. In her free time, and when she's in the Philippines, she loves to dive and wakeboard in the waters of her home island, Bohol.
